David Sutkin is the bass player for Apollo's Ghost, an instrumental, alternative, post rock trio out of Brooklyn, NY.
David's been a bass player for 35 years and grew up on a healthy diet of the playing styles of Chris Squire, Geddy Lee, John Paul Jones, John Entwistle, Geezer Butler, etc. Each one had a profound effect on his playing style and you can hear the influences in his bass lines with Apollo's Ghost.
"I've always favored the pioneering bassist, the bass player who knew when to hang in the pocket but also knew when to break out melodically. The bass can be just as much a lead instrument as a rhythm one depending on what the musician’s abilities and knowing what the music calls for"
David's love for high end gear includes an impressive collection of vintage Rickenbacker and Fender basses along with more modern sounding bass brands like Dingwall, Warwick and Sandberg. He also has an extensive pedal collection for his work with experimental genres.
You can have all the basses and pedals in the world but without the right cabinet and speakers, none of that gear gets to truly shine, that's where my Schroeder cabinets come in.
I could never find the right cabinets that suited my personal tone preferences. I needed a set of cabinets that could handle whatever I threw at it and still have tons of head room to spare without breaking up, that's when I discovered Schroeder cabs.
Up until then, I had been on a lifelong search for the right cabinets to handle the tone I was looking for ... Loud, punchy, dynamic, dirty and did I mention loud? ... I have owned cabs from all the major bass cabinet manufacturers and even many custom-built boutique cabs. I've liked a handful but none compare to the 2) Schroeder 4X12 cabinets Jorg custom built for me. At 2400 watts per cab with 2) 2000-Watt Carvin heads driving them, there is no shortage of WOW coming from my Schroeder cabinets.
Jorg and team build magnificent cabinets with astoundingly great speakers that can handle anything I throw at them. I can't imagine buying any other brand but Schroeder in the future.
