I am a professional, self-employed musician, and Professor in Commercial Music at South Plains College, in Levelland, TX. I taught bass guitar for the National Guitar Workshop in the summers at various locations throughout the country for about 10 years. I was the editor for Mel Bay Publishing’s now defunct bass webzine, “Bass Sessions”, and the author of an electric bass instructional book published by Mel Bay called “Mel Bay’s Modern Electric Bass Method, Grade 1”. My Masters of Music Education degree from Texas Tech University, was completed in the spring of 2013, under the guidance of Dr. Janice Killian.
I have been active in the local Lubbock, TX. Music scene since moving here in 1988. I have played all kinds of gigs with almost all of the prominent local bands and musicians. I have performed as a member of the pit orchestra in over three-dozen local musical productions, from “Little Shop of Horrors” to “Hello Dolly” (the actual Broadway touring production featuring Carol Channing as “Dolly”), and most recently, Texas Tech’s production of “Heathers the Musical” and “Cabaret.” I’ve also been the bassist for numerous musicals produced by the Lubbock Moonlight Musicals company, including “CATS,” “Mary Poppins,” “SHREK,” “Suessical,” and others.
On string bass, I have performed with the Big Spring Symphony, the Plainview Symphony, the Midland Symphony, the Roswell, NM. symphony, and most recently, the Southwest Symphony located in Hobbs, NM.
I play bass for contemporary service on Sundays at the First Christian Church in Lubbock.
I also perform with a local jazz group known as the “Alma Quartet,” who released our first CD of original tunes called “Solitude” last year. We also have an R & B/pop ensemble known as “Ginger and the Alchemists’ that play gigs regularly in the area.
Jorg Schroeder’s cabinets are very often part of my gear for any given gig. I appreciate the quality of sound and the flexibility to sound right in so many different situations. The fact that Jorg has the ability to create custom cabinets based on a player’s specific needs is something that no other manufacturer can rival, to my knowledge.
